Ahmad Shahizam Mohd Shariff is the Director of the Managing Director’s Office at Khazanah Nasional — an investment arm of the Malaysian government. Prior to his current position, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) law degree holder had served as Senior Vice President at the same Office and within the Communications and External Relations unit.
Ahmad Shahizam launched his professional career by joining HSBC Malaysia Berhad in 1994 as a Resident Manager. Two years later, he pursued his interest in investment by joining ING Barings as an equity investment analyst. In 2000, Ahmad Shahizam joined the highly accredited firm, Salomon Smith Barney where he was made a Vice President in the equity research division working on utilities, infrastructure, plantations and real estate. The wide-ranging investment experience possessed by this remarkable talent enabled him to be appointed as the Head of Islamic Capital Markets at HSBC Malaysia Berhad, pioneering the bank’s participation in the competitive domestic Islamic finance market in 2004 before joining Khazanah Nasional.
Ahmad Shahizam is presently on a one-year sabbatical at the prestigious John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, where he is pursuing a Masters in Public Administration.
