Tengku Zafrul Aziz is both Chief Executive Officer and a substantial shareholder of Tune Money Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s first one-stop online financial services company and a member of the highly innovative and revolutionary Tune Group.
Before taking on this role, Zafrul was Head of Investment Banking in Citigroup Malaysia for a year. He has also been Group Managing Director of Avenue International Capital Bhd (now ECM Libra Avenue Bhd) where he took the company from a loss-making concern in 2004 to a profit of RM50 million in 2006. He also served as Chief Executive Officer of Avenue Securities Sdn Bhd and Chairman of Avenue Invest Bhd.
Zafrul, who graduated from University of Bristol, UK (BSc (Hons) Economics and Accounting) and did his Masters at University of Exeter, UK, started out as corporate finance executive in Am Merchant Bank. He moved over to Credit Agricole as an investment analyst, moving up quickly to director within a few years. He then became the Advisor to the President of one of Malaysia’s largest companies, Tenaga Nasional Bhd from which he moved on to CIMB’s investment banking division.
On a more personal note, Zafrul has been quoted as saying he could live without his wallet but not his Blackberry as he shoots off over a thousand emails and text messages a day and needs to be constantly in touch. He interacts with customers in a variety of ways, not least of which is through his blog, http://www.tengkuzafrul.com, where he combines business with pleasure, discussing everything from Tune Money’s latest products to what he did over the weekend.
The 34-year-old tech-savvy CEO combines in-depth knowledge and experience of the industry with a friendly, approachable personality – the perfect combination for a company that intends to offer premium financial products to the man-on-the-street.
